Proper Dental Hygiene

As soon as my first baby tooth peeked out of my gum, my parents started to brush that first tooth. Then the second and the third and the forth and all 20 baby teeth were brushed once a day with a fluoridated tooth paste and an especially soft children’s tooth brush. My parents – and sometimes even my grand-parents – taught me in my 2 ½ – 3 years of age, how to brush my teeth properly, so that I too, can have strong, healthy and sharp teeth, just like they do. At the day care center and in kindergarten, a dentist showed us the right brushing technique. It is great fun to brush my teeth together with all the other kids!

After my second birthday, I started brushing my teeth twice a day, still with the help of my parents of course. I made great progress every day in brushing correctly and well. You know how to brush correctly and well? This is how: First you brush the chewing surface, than from the outside and last but not least, from the inside. Every one to two month, I get a shiny new tooth brush. We go and see a very nice dentist regularly. Some of my playmates started brushing their teeth a bit earlier in their lives, some a bit later.

Nutrition Tips

Even though my baby teeth will one day be replaced my definite teeth, it is crucially important to take good care of them by cleaning and protecting them properly. That way, I am fighting the evil caries monster, which is digging holes into my teeth, every single day. And I am sure you all know how: brush your teeth frequently and as a snack, always chose something without sugar. Because sugar can – Abracadabra – transform to acid and attack your teeth. That is why it is very important to always brush your teeth after eating or drinking things that contain sugar.

Back when I was a baby, my need for liquids was covered by mother milk nutrition. But during some hot days, when I was more thirsty than usual, I was fed water or tea, always without any sugar, of course. Especially before bedtime, I wasn’t allowed anything containing sugar, because during the night, we don’t produce as much saliva as we do during the day and then, the caries monster could be attracted to our teeth. Fruit juices were also forbidden, because they contain acids, which will also attack the teeth. When choosing products, it is best to always make sure the term “tooth-friendly“ is used. It is great fun to watch out for the little tooth-friendly man during grocery shopping with my parents!

Dental Accidents

Even I have had a dental accident. But thanks to my parent’s well-considered reaction, it all turned out well again. You should always go see a dentist when having a dental accident, because it is not always easy to see what the long-term consequences might be. The insurance company also has to be notified immediately, for the costs to be covered. If a tooth is knocked out, it is very important to bring the tooth to the dentist, in a special „tooth-rescue-box”. (In that box, a tooth can stay vital for 24 hours) If you don’t have one of those boxes, it is best to put the tooth in milk. Never cleanse the tooth or leave it to dry out. And do never touch the root of a tooth!

Okay dokay, my dear kids. I hope my tips and insights could motivate you to always take good care of your precious teeth. If you have any questions, feel free to stop by at our CENTERDENT practice at any time. We will always find time for you and your concerns.
