Dental implants substitute single teeth. They can be combined with bridges or prothetics. The implants are screws, made of 100% titanium, which take over the function of the dental root. Titanium is biocompatible and allergy-free. The implant screws are being fixated to the jaw bone in a surgical procedure. After the healing process, the crowning is being placed, with the use of a screw joint or cementation.

The advantage of the use of implants is, that none of the surrounding healthy teeth have to be prepared for the fixation. Also, bone loss is prevented.

Prothetics supported by implants offer a much better stability for chewing and speaking, which brings confidence and comfort for the patient.

For a long-term success, an optimized dental hygiene programm is necessary and regular visits with the dental hygienist are mandatory.

Various studies showed, that with intensive care, implants can be obtained for a long time: the success rate is at 95% after ten years.

Risk factors of using implants are: levelled off diabetes mellitus, endocarditis, organ transplant, bisphosphonate therapy (in connection with osteoporosis), chemo therapy and radiation therapy, untreated paradontitis, smoking (over 10 cigarettes per day) and insufficient dental hygiene.
